Food Service Worker – Royal Jubilee
This was an impactful learning experience and taught me a lot about life while working this job. As a food worker at the hospital I worked 12 hours shifts where I made and served meal trays to patients three meals a day. This was a very busy job where I had to learn to work quickly and efficiently. Something that was really impactful for me during this job was the wide scope of people that I interacted with at the hospital. I was able to have really engaging and interesting conversations with people from all walks of life. For the majority of the time that I was in this job I worked on a hospice unit, the was very peaceful and healing to me. It changed my perspective on life and coming out of finishing my bachelor’s and going into this job I think that it propelled me forward in my life to pursue what I wanted. I think that I am a compassionate person but this job really solidified this for me and made me realize that I do want to work a career where I can make a positive impact with others. And this mindset is something that I want to take forward in my career as an educator.
New Zealand – Feb/March 2024
Travelling to New Zealand was impactful to my own teaching and learning because I learnt a lot on this trip that I can incorporate in my teaching. A part from travelling around, and exploring and hiking around country something that I found to be interesting was Maori culture. Similar to Canada in the way that it had became a colonized country, but different in the way that Indigenous culture is presented. I found it to be a lot more prevalent than how it is in Canada, with all signage in English and Maori and places being called only the Maori name. This was something that I deeply appreciated during my travels and reflected about while thinking about how it was different in Canada.

Regional Office Administrative Assistant
This job I worked this last summer, as an admin assistant in a government office. This was different than my previous work experiences a clerks in a hospital setting. Something that I learnt a lot about during this job how government structure works are how different parts of the government interact. This was formative in my teaching and learning in a couple of ways, I think that a lot of skills I learnt at this job could be applied to skills I would need as a teacher, and this job also encouraged me to continue my pursuit of becoming a teacher because I enjoy the dynamic work environment.
