About me
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to my teaching ePortfolio! I created this portfolio space to introduce myself and to showcase some of the work that I have done on this path to becoming an elementary school teacher.
I have grown up here in Kamloops, and I think that it has been a great place to live, learn, work, and explore. As someone who loves the outdoors there are plenty of places to go hiking, and exploring. I feel a connection to Kamloops through my family and friends living here and being close to them.
After I graduated high school I moved to Victoria where I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Victoria. I found a passion for sociology enjoy the variety of topics and different aspects of society I can learn about. Learning about the study of human societies, their interactions, and the processes that shape and change people from personal relationships to global issues has broadened my perspective on the world and is something I am continue to explore.
After completing my degree I spent an additional two years in Victoria where I worked a variety of clerk jobs at the Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals. This was a really rich learning experience for me because I learnt a lot of life skills and how to be detail oriented while being efficient in a fast paced environment. This experience taught me a lot and I think apply these skills that I learnt in these jobs will be very useful as a teacher.
Contemplating my steps after university I decided that I wanted to travel a bit before going back to school and starting the teaching program. Last February and March my partner and I traveled across New Zealand. We bought a van and started from the southern tip and made our way up to the north of New Zealand. This is one of the most fun experiences I have in my life, I was able to hike all around and see so many beautiful sights. This experience contributed to where I am now because it allowed me to experience something totally new and reframe my own mindset.
Apart from traveling, in my free time I love to spend time outdoors by exploring, running and hiking. I also enjoy visiting with friends and family, cooking and baking, doing arts and crafts, and reading. Coming up to the end this semester I am looking forward to having a bit more free time to spend on my hobbies. I love learning and trying new things and I often do this through trying new hobbies.
Recently I have been exploring trying new sports, where I have joined a curling team and have joined a recreational softball team. I love to learn and try new things and I try to embody the fact that it’s never too late to try something new and you never know what you might end up loving! These experiences have shaped me into who I am today and I want to continue to learn and grow throughout my life.
